Come As You Are

Worship Services

An open table, honest preaching, and music that moves — every Sunday at 10:00 AM.

Join us any Sunday.

Our single Sunday morning service brings the whole congregation together — children, seniors, longtime members, and first-time visitors — all at the same table.

10:00 AM
Year-round in the Sanctuary. Children attend the beginning of service, then move to Sunday School.
11:15 AM
After every service in Fellowship Hall. Come for the coffee — stay for the community.

Here's what to expect.

First visits can feel daunting. We want you to know exactly what to expect so you can arrive with ease — not anxiety.

01
A Genuine Welcome
Greeters will be at the door before every service. They'll hand you a bulletin, answer any questions, and point you where you need to go — without pressure or pitch.
02
Come As You Are
No dress code. No expectations. We have folks who show up in suits and others in jeans. The only thing that matters is that you showed up.
03
Bring Your Kids
Children begin the service with the congregation, then head to Sunday School after the children's sermon. Nursery care is available for infants and toddlers.
04
Honest Preaching
Our sermons engage real questions, real doubt, and real life. You won't find easy answers here — but you'll find thoughtful companions for the journey.
05
Communion
We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month. All are welcome at the table — no membership or prior sacrament required.
06
Stay for Coffee
Coffee hour after the service is where community actually happens. There's always good coffee, homemade treats, and people who want to meet you.

"I walked in ready to be asked for something. Instead, I was just asked how I was doing. That's when I knew this was different."

Reverend Mary Herbig

Rev. Mary Herbig has served as Senior Pastor of First Congregational Church of Wilmette for over a decade. Ordained in the United Church of Christ, she brings a rare combination of intellectual rigor, pastoral warmth, and a deep commitment to justice and inclusion.

Her preaching draws on scripture, literature, current events, and honest human experience — inviting the congregation into conversation rather than delivering answers. She holds a Masters of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary and has done postgraduate work in spiritual formation and contemplative practice.

Mary is particularly passionate about FCCW's Open and Affirming identity, its long history of social justice engagement, and creating a congregation where doubt is welcome and questions are never dangerous.
